I was married to my loving husband late into my teen years – and he wasn’t much older himself. At that point in our marriage, you could say that our lifestyle would best be described as dorm room living. Out on our own and independent, everything that our parents had tried to teach us about living was put to the test – and we were failing miserably.
When company would come over, they would have to stand up for lack of sitting room on the couch. Things didn’t get much better by the time our first baby came along. 1. Use The Same Scent Throughout The Entire House
Do you have a favorite cleaning fragrance? My favorite cleaning scent is lemon. Now that I am more aware of what makes my house feel cleaner I have started using the scent of lemon throughout my entire house. This means everything from disinfecting wipes to essential oils has a lemon smell to it. When you walk into my house you no longer smell last night’s dinner that was burnt or the pull-ups collecting in the trash can. You walk in and smell lemon, and it’s inviting. If I were to clean my toilets with one scented product and clean my counters with an entirely different scent you would not get that overwhelming clean feel.
2. Make The Beds First
My momma always told me to make my bed, did yours? Well, Momma knew a thing or two. By making your bed before you start cleaning, the room already feels cleaner. That simple step is enough to encourage you to keep on cleaning! Even if there is a pile of dirty laundry on the floor – a made up bed will still help the room feel cleaner than it is.
3. Go Natural
Cleaning products are great in that they are convenient. However, they do tend to leave behind a film and ultimately can end up costing you a lot more than you need to spend. By stocking your house with simple products such as white distilled vinegar, essentials oils, and baking soda you not only eliminate the film layer but also the clutter that is caused by having to store numerous cleaning containers.
4. Stick To A Cleaning Schedule
This is vital, especially for those in busy seasons of life. Having a simple cleaning schedule can go a long ways to helping the house feel cleaner. It doesn’t have to be an elaborate cleaning schedule either, it can be as simple as knowing that on Mondays you clean the bathrooms and on Tuesdays, you vacuum the floors. 5. Empty and Toss
If the trash can is full, take out the bag. Letting the trash can overflow is something that most of us are guilty of at one point or another. Another example of the empty and toss dilemma that so many of us face is forgetting to toss empty bottles and containers such as shampoo bottles. It may seem little but an overflowing trash can makes the entire room look dirtier than it is, while an empty bag silently signals to the brain that you clean your house.
